 KWILA

Kwila is a hardwood commonly used for outdoor furniture due to its strength, stability and resistance to insects and decay. Because of the durability of the timber it will withstand exposure to the elements without the need for major maintenance.

Kwila contains a high resin content which will initially bleed when it gets wet. To avoid staining of surfaces, we recommend placing on a lawn to allow the bleeding process to happen either naturally during rainy weather or you may wish to accelerate the process by wetting down with a hose (this may need to be done several times). Ensure that the timber dries thoroughly. Kwila is generally an auburn colour but as it weathers and ages, it will turn a silvery colour and natural splitting or cracks will occur. You can slow this process down by oiling with an approved outdoor furniture oil. This will also nourish the timber. (Natural silvering of timber cannot be removed by re-oiling. The wood must be cleaned, sanded and re-oiled when completely dry.)

Seasonal changes in weather can cause fittings to work loose. It is recommended that fixtures and fittings be tightened periodically to avoid potential damage. We also recommend that furniture be protected from the elements wherever possible, either by storing indoors or by the use of a protective cover.
